Seven 2 wall art at the moment is not exclusively but mostly myself, Paschal. I’m both lucky and genuinely blessed to be supported and encouraged by my partner Orla and my family. A dad of one (Josh) and a human slave to a border collie/cocker spaniel rescue dog called Bella. My bones are starting to creak but I’m happy in the second half of my own century.
I’m lucky that pastimes like cycling, surfing, walking and photography all take place in a spectacular outdoor environment here in Northwest Ireland, with raw and unspoiled scenery, a backdrop of mountains (Irish style), lakes, the majestic Atlantic Ocean and so much more – and lucky that I can enjoy the same in other countries. I love travelling, here, or there! Soaking up vistas, cultures, ways of life, art, music, everything. Indoors I love scribbling and doodling, a good TV documentary or series, going down random rabbit holes on you tube can sometimes be considered a valid exercise. Throughout everything good music is very important to me. Overall, I’m a medium sized sponge and enjoy getting off the beaten track.
Oh I like a bit of craic too. (this is an Irish term for humour, fun, laughter)
As a young kid in a rural area with no travel infrastructure, school was for the most part the only outside world. Cycling to neighbours and friends’ houses, drawing, reading and ‘inventing’ or replicating mostly idiotic ideas was the norm. My dad and other family members were builders, or wood workers and farmers. A shed full of wood, nails and other materials and tools was my main playground. ‘Helping’ on building sites and a farm environment where some resources were basic fostered a strong problem-solving ethic, I learned how things fitted together, how they worked, how to take things apart and if lucky how to fix which wasn’t always the case!
Formal Education didn’t excite nor challenge me (personally I don’t believe it does for anyone in general) so I invested in what interested me – Art, and ticked all the boxes in other subjects. On down the line I started college to do fine art but somehow it didn’t seem right, so I didn’t pursue and worked jobs in construction, postal service and randomly by accident Childcare! Alongside this I learned and developed as a photographer and have been a part time free-lance photographer for quite a while which to a degree filled my creative needs. (Product photography is by twist of fate and ironically not my thing)
Whether it was fate or a moment of mid life crisis madness I decided to return to education and successfully interviewed for a fine art degree course, but something felt off and at the suggestion of one of the interviewers I faced my fears of technology and computers and obtained my mixed digital media diploma with honours.
Long story short, fast forward and I discovered laser cutting and seen a way to bring my newfound digital skills, fine art, technical drawing, wood working, creating, and passions together to create what you see here today.
All designs start and are developed on paper (and often other less formal surfaces), where I prefer a pen over pencil to sketch. On the computer I fine tune the design within illustrator using a hybrid style of old-fashioned drafting techniques, I literally hold a ruler in front of the screen during initial phases, but heck it works for me. I never fully realised how good organisation and optimisation ideas such as files and folders were until…
My aim is to create totally original art that challenges and excites me, that is aesthetically pleasing, that is created and finished to the best of my abilities.
All my work is very considered - If it doesn’t please me in all ways I shouldn’t expect it to do so for you, each piece I sell is not just a visual item but a genuine representation of me.
Addressing a sweet tooth, over thinking and over engineering are ongoing concerns…
